Recap: New York Spring 2010 Fashion Week

As a New Yorker by way of being an emigre, you know I can't do fashion season recaps and not include my picks from the NYFW shows!

And thus, here are my belated 'Big Apple' key looks for S/S2010:
Clockwise, from top left

  1. Vena Cava::: Those Vena Cava ladies always lend their personal mix-n-match style to their presentations; the collection is styled very simply, but with all the right pieces - visors, anyone? Check out this month's issue of Au Courant Magazine to see co-designer Lisa Mayock's style faves!
  2. Prabal Gurung::: I've talked about this collection before, and couldn't help but feature it again; it's truly one of the standout collections from the NYFW S/S10 showings. Extra points for the use of bold, royal blue.
  3. Alexander Wang::: Wang showed a touch of range, all but ditching his fluid, stretchy forms for a more varsity set; totally feeling the Aspen-worthy sweaters with jazzed-up gym sweats and camel booties.
  4. Halston::: There's a slow but steady wind of change stirring over at Halston, and I love it! What's smashing, is that the signature Halston drapery is there, but the pieces don't look like my Granny's lounging caftan, anymore...
  5. Altuzarra::: Joseph Altuzarra's a relative newcomer on the scene, but his collections stand out because he's constantly showing his range, and reinforcing his design aesthetic: updated rompers and strappy, asymmetrical blouses boast his style ID.
  6. Costello Tagliapietra::: So, so glad the burly boys of CT are back and showing at NYFW! They're known for making Hitchcock-worthy women's dresses that reveals only the best parts of a woman's body. Their attention to textile selection is also extremely on-point; their materials make frills seem as lively as a cascading waterfall....
Later on today, the Milan favourites
