Touted as the 'Rum of Redemption' ,
10 Cane Premier Luxury Rum, is a light and deliciously smooth rum - not the usual variety that you'd drunkenly guzzle down at a Fete. This new version of the spirit apparently rivals the finest of drinks; rich with a fruity, almost floral blend, and laden with the pureness of sugar cane juice derived from the first pressing of cane. This luxury rum is created from the juice itself, not from molasses like most traditional rums. The result is a light and extremely smooth elixir, enjoyable as a neat drink, in cocktails or simply on the rocks - anything that you'd usually mix with rum could do with a shot of 10 Cane... Just call it the ultimate makeover. According to LVMH President Christophe Navarre 'It's the way rum's supposed to be!' Not bad. And to think it may have been inspired by sucking on sugar cane from Caroni...
The story goes, that upon the creation of a new Wine & Spirits division at Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey

(LVMH), the Hennessey master distiller Jean Pineau was given the task of creating this prized potion. His plan? To apply the Cognac makers' high production standards in the selection of ingredients & the making of rum. So what else could he use but some good ol' Trinidadian Sugar Cane, eh? The story then continues with Pineau making a visit to the cane fields, where he was offered a piece of freshly cut cane to chew on, and in the tradition of so many West Indian kiddies before him, he thoroughly enjoyed and devoured it! "I sucked on a cut cane in a field and decided that taste of raw sugar juice was what I ultimately wanted to bring to the spirit." he apparently said afterwards..You're probably saying, 'but they keep that real hush-hush boy! I aint know Louis Vuitton making rum with Trini sugar cane? Where they doing that.... Fernandes Conpound in Laventille?!' Mabye. Mabye not Whatever they are doing, they're doing it rather quietly.
Although I do recall CL Duprey, the Angostura/Fernandes/Clico head talking about the big things th

ey were doing for Wines & Spirits on an international level... Anyways, the product's name refers to the bunches of 10 sugarcane stalks that are carried from the field in traditional hand harvesting by machete; it also alludes to the selectiveness of the distillers in their creation of small batches of the rum. So if you manage to get your hands on a bottle (It's about $36.99 USD), go bravely and savor the taste of the sugar cane fields. I'm pretty fuss free when it comes to my drinks - I like rum so I often have it on the rocks or Cuba Libre style, with a touch of Coke... Very basic. You, however, can go bold and mix up your own Planters Punch, Quarterdeck Cocktail or Daiquiri with some 10 Cane. Be responsible, though, because the proof is quite high (about 80). Wow your guests at the next soiree with something luxurious & delectable that's home grown. To get the back story check out www.10cane.com
