Happy 47th Independence to Trinidad & Tobago
From time to time, I get the feeling that some of the lawlessness and 'dont-care-a-damn' mentality that crops up from all sectors of T&T society comes from a general lack of disregard for the country.
And I wonder what life would be like on the twin-island state, if it's inhabitants - even the overseas ones, like myself - were to truly engender some sense of national pride; in the people, the lands, the society, the disenfranchised, etc?
Alright - enough ranting for today! I don't know what the hell gets into me whenever I saddle up that ever-ready high horse...
So here's a little something from one of my favourite Artists, Carlisle Chang, in the hope that you learn something about our country, given that today is our Independence.

Happy 46th Independence, Trinidad & Tobago!

"God Bless our Nation, of many varied races
May we posses that common love
That binds, and makes us one
Let it be known around the world
That we can boast of unity
And take our pride
In our liberty!"
May we posses that common love
That binds, and makes us one
Let it be known around the world
That we can boast of unity
And take our pride
In our liberty!"
The above excerpt, was taken from Trinidad & Tobago's National Song "God Bless our Nation" by Marjorie Padmore.
Written for a newly independent nation to encapsulate its newfound liberty and pride, this song has been sung by school children and patriots across Trinidad & Tobago for years.
I remember back in the day, being a part of my Newtown Girl's R.C. Primary School's choir and having to sing this song year after year after year on Independence Day - the repetition was nauseating!
Repetitious singing aside, the words of 'God Bless our Nation' still ring true. And with those words, I wish all Trini's a very HAPPY INDEPENDENCE!
