On behalf of all Au Courant readers and followers, I am putting out a call to the creative, artistic force that is Peter Minshall:
WE NEED A REAL CARNIVAL BAND FOR 2010! WE NEED YOU!
Mr. Minshall, with all due respects, I feel as if I may have to beat you over the head with that black brollie you carry with you to the grocery, from time to time.
Oh yes! I've seen you on more than one occasions, walking rather jauntily, so I know you're not dead (as one insensitive rumor-monger asserted.)
And even if you're 'physically sick' (as one, self professed, 'Minshallite' swore) I know a creative mind as fertile as yours could never want for ideas.
And, I know those Minshall/Callaloo acolytes are just lingering around somewhere, waiting for a word from you that hearkens them to arms in your Mas camp.
So why have you deserted us for so long, leaving us with no worthy Mas' options for Carnival? I remember you saying after 'The Sacred Heart,' that you're stepping away from mas, because your efforts aren't valued. I don't know about the rabble - en masse - but for me, that's just not true.
Look here. I am not the last word on 'who's who,' and 'what's what' in Trinidad Carnival and Performance Art, but I am telling you that it is time to give again. Isn't that why the gifted are blessed with their talents? To enrich the lives of others? To share?
Come on, nah man! You've had your well-earned laugh at our infantile society.
But don't you think it's time for the Mas' again? Even if money is an issue - pulling together grandiose presentations are expensive, I know - just have an Eco-awareness band, and let everyone bring their sacks of old Tru Valu plastic bags for costumes, and I know you can more than figure out the rest!
All of this to say, "Please tell me the rumours that you're doing a Mas' for 2010, are true?"

I totally identify with this post! We NEED real mas and it's urgent! I am tired of feathers, how many more peacocks must give up their plumes before we realise that mas has more substance than that. Sheesh! I will bring the brollie!
