I believe there's a little girl in each woman who desires to be:
(a) A Ballerina
(b) A Supermodel
(c) Miss Universe
I know, you don't have to admit it! Anyways, putting the objectification-of-women aspect aside, I've got to give you the heads-up on all the Miss Universe Pageant activities that will be going down in the Bahamas.
I just received word from Arianne Etuck, the Press Officer of Mode Iles (you may remember them as the team that put together the Islands of the World fashion event) and it seems that the 88 Pageant delegates will be taking part in a 'dazzling spectacle' of a Fashion Event on August 12th 2009, as part of the build-up to the actual Miss Universe Pageant.
It's a tradition of sorts; I recall when Trinidad and Tobago hosted the Miss Universe Pageant, there was a similar fashion event, where local designers had an opportunity to outfit the international pageant delegates for the evening.
In a similar fashion, three lucky Bahamian designers have been selected to do their part for the event: Rachel Turnquest-Garcia of Rachel's Boutique, Basheva Eve of La Maison de Besh, and Sabrina Francis of SE'B Fashions will have their designs showcased on the lithe bodies of the 88 contestants for the evening
The Pageant itself is set for August 23rd, and will be broadcasted live on NBC; if you can't make it to Nassau, you can catch it on the Tele, or at least online, I'm sure. And in the meantime, get the press releases and the scoops here.
