Fancy A bit of Cricket? Jack Olive's in SoHo
This one caught my eye yesterday, as I was making my stroll across Mercer. I couldn't help but notice the upright wicket, bat, and ball propped up in the showcase of this fairly new Mens store, and it just warmed my West Indian heart!
Jack Olive is inspired by the natty style and flair of the gentlemen Cricket players, and the preppy, crumpets-and-tea sport that they take part in. The actual game itself, can tend to be boring, depending on the team.
But, as for the gear and the style? Absolutely smashing. The typical Cricket gear reeks of imperial Britannia during it's heyday, but giving Jack his Jacket, a well dressed Cricketer or Batsman always look dandy and fine.
I'm not sure how the store and brand will fare in the US, where seemingly odd and foreign sports like Cricket are poo-poohed (even though the rest of the world is clued into its cool factor!) but then again, the sport and it's inherent style is all about a bit of snobbery; something that might resonate with the average moneyed, SoHo shopper.
