What do I want for Christmas? Like every good Ms. Universe contestant, I want World Peace - and maybe World Economic Stability, too - along with sugar and spice and everything nice.
But with people either feeling the pinch of tightened purse strings or the terror of financial collapse, I decided to whip out the C3 formula for heartwarming and delightful gifts that are Crave-worthy, Chic and yet Cheap.
They'll still incite those "I want it now" pangs, and will thrill those whom you're gifting, but will spare you the after Christmas money woes. At times like these, it's our responsibility to not only be financially smart, but to keep on living with as much of the usual cheer and style that we can muster.
So let me break down the list for you:
- Hermes "Birkin" bag - This is the uber-accessory. Hand made in Paris, and with a waiting list that stretches on for years (6, I think) this pricey purse is more of an investment than a simple gift. The $6000.00 plus USD price tag is out of your league? Take my lead and set your sights on an 'inspired' version in cool canvas, by the downtown chic line, Slow and Steady Wins The Race. ($100.00)
- Escada "Moon Sparkle" fragrance - Since teaming up with Rihanna and her children's charity, Moon Sparkle has become a scent success. The $40.00 price tag is not too hefty, but if you want an equally tantalizing fragrance for less, try Carol's Daughter's Jamaican Punch. ($27.00)
- Celeb Makeup Artistry from Mally Roncal - Well, if you happen to be in league with some divalicious superstar like Beyonce or Celine Dion, chances are that having Ms. Roncal do your makeup is no biggie. If, however, the notion is a farfetched one, why not try her designer 'on-the-go' compact instead? ($65.00)
- Boscoe Holder Painting - Don't we all wish we could buy an original Boscoe Holder painting; I've got a space on my living room wall put aside just for that eventuality. In the meantime, a framed print featuring one of his black beauties might do the trick. ($38.00)
- Nintendo Wii - I want a Wii. You want a Wii. We all want a Wii. Sad thing is that most stores are already sold out! So I'm thinking we might have to go old school, and toss around a set of Jacks! Can't remember how to play the game? Brush up here. ($10.00)
- Tiffany Diamonds - Ooh, Diamonds! I think all women should have at least one diamond 'something'. Instead of waiting for your engagement ring, or for some dear old aunt to 'pass on', leaving you her estate jewelery, may I suggest you get a smart sub? The rough Diamond & Malachite bracelet supports the Diamond Empowerment Fund, that in turn, supports the Diamond mining communities of Africa. ($125.00)
And that's it. Six stylish and yet simple things to warm anyone's heart during the season of giving.
L.M.N. Harris.
I've set my sights lower. This y ear i Just want an Hermes scarf to start with. This gives the gift giver time to move up on the Berkin waiting list :)
hahaha... I get you!
is it not better to give than toreceive?
Right you are - but one can still dream...
