Happy 2nd Anniversary to Jamrock Magazine!

Over the past few months, I've become a serious fan of Jamrock magazine; I was actually feeling out of the loop for a second, thinking "how come I didn't hear about this mag before?!" To say the least, Jamrock is a high quality, well laid-out & produced Caribbean Magazine, with a sleekness that belies its 'youth'.

Embarrassment aside, the Link Up media publication celebrated their 2nd Anniversary yesterday, on September 18th 2008 (Big up to Assistant Editor-in-Chief Mikelah Rose for hooking us up!) Throwing down a 'by invitation only' rollicking B'day party at BLVD on the Bowery, SoHo, the team led by Publisher David 'Squeeze' Anakie, demonstrated exactly why they're quickly becoming the definitive voice of Caribbean people in-the-know.

The crowd quickly swelled to fill the entire club, and every guest - Caribbean national or not - got down and swayed to the music, and I'm talking some good ole Beenie Man, Buju, Sizzla, Bob, Capleton, Bounty, Faye-Ann Lyons, Machel Montano... Whew! All that to say the tunes spinned by DJ Fatta Diamond hit the spot and kept the dance going.

Definitely worth a mention: the versatile and tight sounds of a musical group on the rise, The New Kingstown Band. The four brothers went through a repertoire that covered some of their own jams - one such jam in particular used a sample from an old General Degree tune that was fantastic - and some reggae standards. All in all, it was a great night.

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Jamrock!
