Millhouse brings A Little Bit of Bling.

I am so pissed about missing 'A little bit of bling', the 2007 Holiday collection from Gregory Mills' design front, Millhouse Clothing. Never mind that there wasn't a scrap of clothing for women - Millhouse is the style emporium for the suave Caribbean man - the Mills are my friends, and I was supposed to fly home to be the Hostess of their cocktail fashion showing. I'm very pissed about not being able to make it, but I have it on very good authority that the exceptional designs were well received and the ambiance was relaxed, not stuffy. Held on November 19th at one of the newest liming lounges in Trinidad, the Coco Lounge, the Millhouse Holiday collection was a winning follow-up to their mid-year showing at the 07 Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica.

Focusing on a cool & natural palette, the Bling collection was more laid-back glam than glitzy flair. Boasting some well cut pant/shirt combos with a few full suits, the collection showcased Mills' exceptional talent for menswear tailoring. Keep in mind, that Gregory Mills is self taught for the most part, and is not one to design clothing for someone else to stitch. His wife and partner, Coleen, contributes greatly as a head designer to the line, but Gregory is the kind of designer who's actually at the textile stores selecting fabrics and trimmings. We've bounced up so many times in Jimmy Aboud's store, and I can't begin to tell you how many conversations we've had whilst he was perched at the cutting board, tacking together jackets and pant waists, with a measuring tape strung around his neck...

Taking a more intimate route to the unveiling of his collection, local male models and society figures all decked out in Millhouse designs slunk through the gathering and bared their chests, to the absolute delight of the ladies in tow. In fact, Gregory Mills seems to prefer 'the intimate' in most of his dealings. His decision to downsize his buzzing city store front to a boutique-type showroom on the outskirts of the capital, Port of Spain, didn't damage his sales and influence. Instead, a trip to the Millhouse store on Jerningham Avenue, Belmont has now become a private shopping experience for the well informed. Sharply dressed men - from the society/popular type to the business executives - all flock to the showroom to get their items tailor made to their exact specifications. And Mills never disappoints. He also provides a select set of ties, shoes, cuff links and other accessories to finish off the look. Now that's what you call A Little Bit of Bling. Bringing you the good stuff...
