'I wear my sunglasses at night...'

Remember that annoyingly catchy 80's tune, sung by Corey Hart? "I wear my sunglasses at night, so I can watch you live...blah blah blah"? Hart slinked around dark alleys and such, looking like a goon or some kind of crazy fiend. Seems like that concept and video montage really appealed to a bunch of our nightclubbing and scene loving folks on the islands. Making like Michael Jackson during his 'Thriller' and 'Bad' days, these scene-sters fancy the darkest of dark shades, not for the blinding midday P.O.S. sun, but for doing their after dark poses at Zen... I've seen alot of those same folks go sliding down the interior Zen nightclub staircases, blindly clutching their designer shades as they descended to general admission! Good for them...

But for the rest of us, we prefer to wear our sunglasses by day, because it's a basic & necessary accessory for living stylishly in the glare. This is also where the purists and die-hards will have to compromise - there aren't any D&G and YSL level equivalents in the region, and that's quite fine by me... Some things aren't manufactured as yet in the WI, so look at it as prime opportunity to get those chic designer goodies. However, it is not a permission slip to go off and buy the most obsurd lenses in the name of fashion. Cat eye shades are always cool, but they don't need to extend to your hair line unless its Halloween or Carnival. The Jackie O lenses are classic; too big and round frames makes you look like the lost extra from the Bee Movie, however... Plastic shades are an 80s throwback fave, but shy away from the cheap finishes and odd colours - you don't want to look like they're actually from Barbie's knockoff friend.

Guys... I haven't forgotten you! The aviators are on point, but try them on properly and make sure they're not too large or too small for your facial structure. If it doesn't fit, don't buy it, even if it's on sale at the Armani store. Go all out and get one with the UVA & UVB protection, because cataracts, glaucoma and degenerating eye diseases aren't for old folks alone. And please, think twice about wearing your shades every and any where... At the end of the day, go for what suits you, and if you're a little perplexed on the style trail, reference the lovely sunglasses I found for you - Chanel Oversized frames & modern Cat's Eye style lenses, and a Versace Aviators for the guys...

Choose Carefully!
